When I was in grade 1 and my oldest sister Krista was in grade 6, the grade 6 class put on a Haunted House for Halloween.  I remember how excited we were as our class lined up to go through, finally our turn!  The room was dark, and there were tunnels to crawl through, slimy peeled grapes to put your hands in, and ghosts wondering around the room.  I clearly remember  the sounds as a tape of eery music played as I crawled my way through the tunnels made of cardboard boxes.  Somewhere in the middle of my tour something jumped out at me in the darkness, just a friendly grade 6 student with face paint I'm sure, but it scared my little 6 year old self right out of my socks!  I cried, and cried, and cried!  My sister's classmates rushed to find her and she came running, ready to console me and wipe away my tears.

Growing up my older sisters were like my second and third mother.  They were there for every scraped knee and lonely day at recess.  They braided my hair and taught me silly dances, and how to play hopscotch.  My younger sister was my best friend and my partner in crime.  All three of them of course also helped me develop a thicker skin, as they taunted and teased.  I'm still the most sensitive one, but imagine how bad I would be had I had no one to teach me to take it!

That said, when Holly contacted me about doing a sister shoot, I was all over it!  I know first hand how special the bond between sisters is, and the opportunity to capture this for them was not one I was going to pass up!  These girls had fun written all over them.  When I suggested a theme they were more than excited to think something up.  I love that they took an idea and ran with it, right down to the last detail.

Holly and Heidi are lucky to have each other.  Being born with a built in best friend is such a special gift!

 Enjoy the photos ladies!!

August 12, 2009 // Wedding
They met through Andre's brother and Christine's best friend, who happen to now be married, to each other.  They dated a while, and met each others families, and everything seemed as it should be.  The timing perhaps was just not quite right, and they broke up.  Andre's mom teared up as she and Christine recounted the story at the salon the morning of the wedding.  She was as sure then as she is now that Christine was the right woman for her son.  Sure enough, she was right.

Andre and Christine wed on a beautiful day in July.  One of few! The ceremony was a reflection of the couple themselves, focusing on God, and love, and music and worship.  Their vows were unique, personal, and so heart felt.  There were more than a few teary eyes as they exchanged the words that would tie them together forever.

Christine is blessed to have a man that will always look at her with that sparkle in his eye, and Andre is so lucky to have a girl that lights up every room she enters.  Oh, and now Christine's best friend is her sister in law.  That's pretty lucky too!

Jen knew the perfect way to start off our evening photo shoot.... by inviting me over for dinner! How thoughtful!  She knew that in order to start our shoot in Winnipeg at 5:30, I would need to leave my house by 4... and who eats dinner before 4 other than my Grandma?  So she offered to make me dinner (Ben helped!) and we could shoot all evening on full stomachs.  Even better, we had dessert at the end of the shoot, whilst planning out our future trip to Nicaragua or Vietnam... yeah, we can't decide!   Thanks so much you two for a great evening.  Here's a peek.... just one... at our session.

It seems so much of what I talk about lately is the weather!  Well, in this business, it's hard not to.  The forecast this weekend was not looking good, to say the least.  James and Ashley reacted to the weather way better than I would expect of most bride and grooms.  We embraced the day that we could not change, and made the most out of it.  The misty rain didn't wash away their excitement, it didn't stand a chance!

August 5, 2009 // Engagement
I was so lucky to be able to sneak away from camping a couple of weeks ago and meet up with Chris and Tania at Chris's family's Lake of the Woods cottage for their engagement session.  If you know me well, you know that a large piece of my heart stays at Lake of the Woods every time I leave it.  The summers I spent in Sioux Narrows will always keep me wishing I could be there again.

For a couple of hours I was able to enjoy the Lake of the Woods scenery.  What a gorgeous back drop this area made for Chris and Tania's engagement session.  I had a fun morning wondering around their cottage capturing the two of them in this super relaxing atmosphere.
